    • Gorah Elephant Camp, Addo
  • Gorah Elephant Camp is a 5000 hectare concession in the main game viewing area of Addo National Park. The entire camp, with eleven luxury tented suites, is unfenced, overlooking the waterhole and the panoramic landscape.

The gracious Gorah Manor House, a National Monument, dates from 1856 and recalls the romance of yesteryear’s safari. The homestead, immaculately restored and period furnished, boasts spacious colonial verandas that spill out onto the African plains. The land was inhabited during the Early Stone Age, 250 000 years ago. Gorah means Natural Water and its spring attracted wildlife, hunters, early farmers and settlers.

On our final morning, the waterhole was visited by buffalo, eland and zebra – all simultaneously in the water. Surprisingly the eland ranked lowest in the dominance hierarchy and were even cautious when the omnipresent warthogs approached to drink.
